Second Six Weeks

Process Log #1

I have dedicated most of my time to researching the contrasting trends between traditional and indie brands, while improving my website. My product progression has been halted since my idea for a muckraking documentary is in progress from a collaboration between two major brands but I hope to contribute another marketing tactic that will benefit the industry. I had the wonderful opportunity to interview Gabriela Trujillo, the CEO and founder of Alamar Cosmetics. She granted me great insight into the marketing of her brand and how she incorporates her own cultural background to relate to her audience. She juxtaposes the mindsets of traditional makeup brands by enforcing the highest quality for the lowest price point, not hyperfocusing on excessive PR. I have also emailed other indie brands that have made an impact with their marketing by expanding beyond the comfort zone other traditional brands. One brand has replied and is willing to contribute through an interview as well. As far as a mentor, I hope on asking one of the people I have interviewed.

Process Log #2

Over the course of the last few weeks, I have inquired about interviewing multiple brands. I have received responses from Dose of Colors, Juvia's Place, and Drunk Elephant saying that they will forward my inquiry to their marketing branches. KL Polish and Makeup Geek said that although they are unable to participate, they attached resources that might aid me in my research. Luckily, since I will be traveling to California for a college visit, a representative from Too Faced has agreed to let me tour their headquarters and interview their perspective of the cosmetics industry. I also have received a confirmation from the marketing manager of Colourpop Cosmetics and I hope to have an in-person interview with them while I am in California. As far as research, I have created a google form where anyone interested may contribute their input as a consumer. I am also considering creating a makeup product for my school's Economics Fair next semester and note the results of the marketing technique I have learned.
